Why I wrote this
I grew up watching my grandmother keep an immaculate home with almost nothing in her hands — a little vinegar here, a pinch of salt there, sometimes just warm water and patience. She never owned a single bottle of specialty cleaner, yet every surface in her house was spotless. Those habits stayed with me, and over the years I started sharing them with the people around me who were frustrated paying so much for products that barely worked.
When I began the Japanese Homestead channel, I was hearing the same thing from so many viewers: they were exhausted by the clutter of cleaning products under the sink, irritated by fumes, and honestly embarrassed that certain stains and buildup just would not budge no matter what they tried. I wrote this handbook because I wanted every one of those viewers to have one calm, trustworthy resource they could return to again and again — not a collection of scattered tips, but a real guide.
The people who have worked through these methods tell me the biggest surprise is how quickly things improve. One reader told me she had been staring at the same discoloration in her kitchen for two years and cleared it up in twenty minutes with things sitting in her pantry. That is exactly the kind of moment I had in mind when I put this book together. Simple, affordable, and genuinely effective — that is the promise on every page.
